Hello and welcome to the first class posting for 2009. The idea with a blog is that it is an interactive learning tool, you get an opportunity to add your thoughts, ideas, opinions and knowledge from outside the classroom, and possibly, with in put from your parents.
When you use a blog there are guidelines, and anyone who chooses to post comments on 'Room 29's Blog', is promising to stick to the guidelines.
Blog Guidelines
• Only ever use your first name or a nickname when you are writing on this or other blogs.
• Never use any other student’s last name.
• Never post any personal information–such as your home phone number or home address.
• Never share any of your user names or passwords with anyone and never log in as another student
• Always tell your parents or teacher right away if you come across anything that makes you feel uncomfortable
• Remember the “grandma rule” that anything you put on the Internet could be read by your grandmother so only write things you could say to the nicest of grandmas.
• Be a good online citizen and never write or post anything that could hurt anyone else.
• Always tell an adult immediately if someone asks for your phone number or to meet you.
• Never make arrangements to meet anyone over the Internet without asking your parents.
• Make sure you publish only your own work. Don’t under any circumstances use other people’s work and call it your own.
• Make sure that you read over your writing before you post it to check the spelling and that it reads okay.
If you wish to change or add to these rules please post a comment with details of our reasons.
Our rich task focus this term is, Turangawaewae , which means 'a place to stand'. We all currently stand in Auckland, New Zealand. My questions to you are.. How or why have we all come to live (stand) here? How did your ancestors get here? Why did they come? What was happening in their country of origin when they left? How many generations of your family have been born here?
I look forward to reading your postings, and seeing the results to our poll.

"We have become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams."Jimmy Carter
I found this quote and it made me think of our art. The korowai we are making, our portrait map of New Zealand, and our quilt.
My ancestors came from Scotland. I am not sure why they came to NZ, I will have to ask mum. They originally landed in Dunedin.
hi my grandad Jidu comes from iraq and my grandma gran came from england these are my dads parents. my mums parents come from NZ. they originally came from wellington. My great grandparents parents were from scotland and my great grandfathers parents came from liverpool in england! mum has just told me a really gross story. one of my great grand mothers relitaves came from the isle of skye and legend has it that whoever touches the island with there hand first gets the island to keep. so he was in a race to get there first and it looked like he wouldn't make it there first so he chopped his hand off and chucked it onto the island. and he won the island. his name was Donald Donald!
Lucy, I love the story, even if it is 'gross'. This is one of the great things about ancestors, there are so many stories about what they did.
I was just thinking that this story would be fabulous in your speech.
My dad was born in Assen, Holland and came to NZ when he was 3, with his brother and mum and dad. None of them could speak any English so it was hard for dad and his brother to make friends. He used to come home and teach his mum and dad English. My mum was born in NZ and her dad was born in Scotland, and her mum was born in NZ. My great grandparents (on my mum's side) came from England, and my great grandparents (on my dad's side) came from Holland.
My mum and dad are both born and bred in Queensland, Australian. And they say that there is no other state in the world like it. Especially at Origin time. My Grandad's family comes from Scotland and my Grandma is from Liverpool, England. That is on my Dad's side. On my Mum's side most of my nan's side of the family are all traced back to when the convicts were sent over on the boat. But on my pop's side his mother's family originated from Germany.
