Play; Is it a right or a privelege?

What did you do today? I bet for many of you the first thing that pops into your head is, 'I went to school' or 'I played with my friends'. Can you imagine if you didn't have these as an option or a right?

Believe it or not there are thousands of children in the world who don't say these things. If someone asked them what they did today, their answer may well differ from yours. Can you imagine if the first thing that popped into your head was; 'I walked 15km to collect my family's water' or 'I worked 12 hours, for a bowl of rice' or ' I tried to get money from strangers to help my family'.

How much do our life experiences differ, and why do they differ? Is it the geography (where we were born)? Is it the government that runs the country? Is it the amount of money a family/country has? What else could it be that alters our lives so much?

So I ask you, is play something all children get to experience?

hi it's Z.Z.Z
i think that play is a right because if people(mainly children) don't get to play they might not learn as much, e.g tackle rugby you can learn how to tackle by doing that. and also no not all children get to play.
some children just, work, eat and sleep. so my main point is that play can help you learn because you can experience how to do something rather than just seeing it or listening to a lecture of how to do it.

hi its holly
i agree with z.z.z
but people have different persectives
so like in the 3rd world
some kids might think that play is work because thats all they know
but some other kids might think that play is sports or playing with dolls or something like that.

hi its d man(davis)

I agree with z.z.z.
because in some countries kids have to work more than play and I think that all kids in countries should play more than work.If you don't play some brain cells don't connect and then your brain doesn't get developed properly.

Yep, i agree with zinzan too because all you would do is work and get very little and eat "scrap food" and you would starve and be tired out.

Hi its brooke
I think children that are not bought up with playing dont really know whats its like. But i think with a little help from room 29 they will be able to have fun and eat good mealed food thats why i think our class should vote for a charity that dont get much money and we can help them relise and i think they would be much more thankful than a charity that has a sponcer.

hi it's kasey

i agree with z.z.z because if you don't play you you will not know what games there are and work is to much for kids and + you have to some fun in your life.

hay guys its tom
i think everyone should play because play is a type of fitness and its also fun. you can play with your friends while and you play and you can work so why do all those kids that just work and work and work and have no fun i bet they dont evan know what fun is and that makes me feel sad because we play and they work and that annoys me

It is great to see that you have been reading each others comments, and commenting on them, either in support or to disagree.

I found your comment really interesting Tom, the fact that you feel annoyed that some children in the world have to work, and you feel this is unjust.

Do you think there is a solution to bonded labour?

Also you all talk about doing work. Remember most of these children who have to work for their family, either to earn money, or pay a family debt, would love to go to school.

Are there things in our lives which may challenge us, but will ultimately enhance our lives, that we take for granted ?

hi ,
i think that if anyone was in the shoes of child who works hard for long hrs everyday with lack of food and water,we would probley be greatful and know how lucky we are to get all the things we have.

i think that there is a solution to bonded labour but the gorvernment are to busy to bother and the law is enforced very poorly.

I don't think play is something everyone gets to experience because some people can't because of their family's debt. Also i think that it is unfair that only the kids need to work and not the rest of their family because it is a family debt.
