What's the Fuss About Fitness?

As part of our 'rich task' this term, the year sixes are looking at fitness, while the year fives are looking at the circulatory system and cardiovascular health.

The year sixes have the challenge of designing a training programme that will increase a particular aspect of fitness. We have had a lot of discussion about what fitness is, and during philosophy, we have argued and justified why we consider some 'things' are fit, unfit or if we are simply not sure. We still have a lot of research to do, and of course want to ensure that there is an element of fair testing, so that our results aren't skewed.

The year fives have heartily embraced the cardiovascular aspect of their study. Aside from the initial 'oh yucks', the year fives thoroughly enjoyed exploring hearts and being able to see ventricles, aortas, arteries, atriums and veins.

To help with our rich task, we would like you to take the poll and answer the question, 'Is fitness important to you?' If possible we would also like you to take the time to post a comment explaining your choice.

hi room 29 its jack from your class just making a opinion about the question:I think there is a fuss about fitness because if you dont exercise you would not be healthy and if your not heathy you could die.

Bj here,

I disagree with Jack because some people dont do excise and they are still alive but i think that Jack means is if you dont do excise and you eat junk food that you will get diabities.

i agree with bj but you don't always get diabities.
i think that fitness is inportant but it depends like some athletes are fit but they die early cause they take drugs and things
but then some people eat biscuits and chocolate (yum) all their life and live to 124

Interesting points, so what is it that keeps someone healthy? is it genes? Is it food? Is it activity? Is is everything in moderation?

And why do some people live for such a long time?

Interesting points everyone. Is fitness the same as being healthy or can you be healthy without being fit?
However fitness is important to me as I feel it makes me better able to cope with my day not only physically but also mentally.

we think that if your really fit you cant be healthy but if you do the right amount of fitness and eat the right amount og food you will be halthy and fit.

i think that people should do fitness because you will be more healthier and you will also be more fit and maybe live a longer life.

I think some of it's good for you, and someof it you don't really need. Some games are good for fitness, especially if they are running games.

People with broken legs, or injuries should not run, maybe they could start by walking. This would help their fitness.

I agree with brooke and malayna
because some people can over exercise and be unhealthy but I think it is important to exercise
because if you dont then once again you could be unhealthy!!!

Another qustion is how much fitness is healty ???

i think if people do to much exercise/fitness i think they could die if they're young because they might not eat the right food and get addicted to doing fitness and over do the amount of fitness they are supposed to do.

and i wanted to say the thing i think that keeps a person alive is the person's body, because it ithink adapts to the food you eat and everyone has to do a little execise/fitness once in a while because people play and old people walk around a lot well most of them do. Even fat peolple (no offence) do some form of physical exercise like fat but young people play on the playground and run round playing ball tiggy. older peolple in their 20's or 30's would probably do something like swimming or jogging with their friends/family etc. The fat people also do swimming once in a while which are you adults like 20 years old to 30.

i agree with holly because some athletes take steroids which i think legally were really made for people that have lost stregth in an accidents. the athletes take the steroid(s) but they don't always do them that much good i mean if u take to much you might end up dying

i think that eating the right food is an important part of being healthy because if you only feed on junk food you probably won't live a long life but it also de3pendson what exercises you do.
